Kylie Erickson, a recent graduate of Grantsville High School, signed a National NJCAA letter of intent and accepted a volleyball scholarship to attend Eastern Wyoming College.
Erickson, 5' 10", was an outside hitter for the Cowboys and voted honorable mention All-State as well as Grantsville High School Female Athlete of the year. A four-year starter on the volleyball team, Erickson also made major contributions to the basketball, softball and golf teams during her high school career.
Receiving such a scholarship was a relief for Erickson.
“I had talked to other schools but I didn’t have any offers until now,” Erickson, 18, said.
Although Erickson has a hard time choosing a favorite sport she’s involved in, there’s something she loves about playing whatever game she faces.
“I would have to say my favorite thing about volleyball is the competition,” said Erickson. “I enjoy any competition because it makes you a better player.”
High school volleyball taught Erickson to be a team player and she says she’ll remember that as she competes at a higher level.
Head volleyball coach for the EWC Lancers Verl Petsch is thrilled to have Erickson join his team.
"Kylie can be an impact player," Petsch said. "Her blue collar work ethic, and excellent all-around skills make her a superb addition to our program."
Recognizing Erickson's strengths, Petsch will play Erickson as a left side hitter.
"She is a strong jumper, has an explosive powerful quick arm swing, with the ability to attack all areas of the court," Petsch said.
Erickson is the daughter of Jody and Laurie Erickson. She plans to major in cosmetology.
