Mathew Jason Marcum, an 11 year resident of Tooele, died on Aug. 11, 2008 at home, he was 23. Born at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, in 1985 while his mom was stationed there, his young life was spent in and around the military. In September of 1991 while living in Barstow, Calif., Matt’s Mom married and he gained a career military step-dad, Lt. Colonel Perry Sosa. The family followed along as Army families do including Ft. Campbell Kentucky. The family settled down and now calls Tooele home and his fellow residents’ part of their extended family.

Matt, a self proclaimed mama’s boy; loved to ride his street motorcycle and off-road quad and took pride in his new truck to haul his toys around. When not working or playing with his kid sister, Matt could be found camping, snowboarding, riding at the dunes, middle canyon, Dell, or 5-mile pass. Matt was a gregarious and generous friend that spent his free time with the love of his life, Jessica Parenteau and his friends, Dustin Lucas, Dean Anderton and Anthony Current.

Matt had too many friends to list them all here and would be upset at us for naming them all here, for that we must apologize. Working at Applebee’s and loving his job, he took great pride being part of the team and his customers could tell by the way he made them feel so welcome. Matt was notorious for dragging his friends or Jess to his auntie “T’s,” uncle Doug’s and cousins, Jon, Zach and Kait’s house. His devotion to friends and family was so apparent to anyone that ever saw them, he had countless second homes here in Tooele. We are forever thankful to everyone who called our son “Bubba.”

Matt leaves behind his mom Dee, dad Perry and little sister Victoria. “Tori” adored and idolized her big brother from the minute she was born and missed her Bubba dearly. While the list of the rest could fill the tribune he would feel remorse if we did not mention his auntie “T”, uncle Doug, cousins, Jon, Zach, Kait and Bekkah, grandma and grandpa Marcum, grandma Jean, uncle Mike, aunt Shelly and we can not forget his many, many friends, extended family members and co-workers. He also leaves his buddy (dog) Dodge and Cleo the kitty.

Memorial services for Matt will be held in Middle Canyon at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, and a wake following at his parent’s house 959 N. Whitaker Dr., Tooele. Please join us and Celebrate Matt. We love you Bubba.
