1925 — 2009
John passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2009 with his loving wife at his side. He was born in Tooele on May 14, 1925 to John and Katherine Pezel, graduated from Tooele High School and served in the United States Army. He was a decorated World War II Veteran who served under the command of General Patton for 3 major campaigns. He married Angelene Tomac on June 16, 1956 and they enjoyed 52 wonderful years together. John retired from Tooele Army Depot and spent his golden years enjoying the fruits of his labor with his loving wife and best friend, Angie. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Emil; and sisters: Mary Zerno, Ann Hoffman, Katie Gritzmacher, and Magdeline Cudd, and Lucille Visher. He is survived by his wife, Angie; brother, Paul; and sister, Helen Richens; in addition to several nieces and nephews. John became non-ambulatory after a fall two years ago, but was able to stay in his home until the last three weeks of his life thanks to Hospice Care Givers and the support, love, and concern provided by his nephew Eddie Hoffman and his nephew and niece Bob and Millie Tomac; in addition to the help provided by his wonderful neighbors. A special thanks to the staff at the Utah State Nursing Facility for Veterans, your loving care and concern was evident and very much appreciated. Thanks for honoring him by playing “Taps” at the time of his passing. A graveside service with military honors was conducted at Murray City Cemetery following a Holy Rosary on Tuesday, Jan. 27. The strife is over John — rest in peace.
