A 30-year-old Tooele man pled guilty in 3rd District Court Tuesday to sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

According to court documents, Bruce Jason Spencer raped the girl in August 2007 at the victim’s Erda home. Spencer was dating the girl’s sister at the time.

The Tooele County Attorney’s Office filed first-degree felony rape charges against Spencer back in September 2007, following an investigation by the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office. Prosecutors issued a $75,000 warrant for his arrest, but officers were never able to execute it.

The warrant was left outstanding until mid-January of this year, when Spencer surfaced after allegedly committing theft and forgery in Salt Lake County and being booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

Spencer was originally charged with rape of a child — a first-degree felony — but pled guilty to an amended charge of second-degree felony sex abuse of a child as part of a plea deal with the prosecution.

Spencer faces up to 15 years in prison when sentenced on April 28.
