More rec centers needed

I read the article titled “Local government must get serious about building recreation facilities” in the Feb. 5 edition and wanted to say that I agree. We need more indoor rec centers in Tooele. People in our county are overweight. It also doesn’t help that we have too many fast-food restaurants in Tooele. The building in Grantsville that was mentioned is out of date and needs to be replaced or fixed. The Dow James Building looks like a prison — only with a rundown basketball court. The Deseret Peak Pool is great, but it is closed in the winter, leaving Pratt Aquatic Center as the only other option. It’s not as big or as fun; plus, it’s indoors, so you can’t get that Vitamin D or general pool atmosphere that you can get in the sun. More gyms or basketball courts would be appreciated. Without the necessary exercise, the kids of Tooele will grow up out of shape.
