Crafters wanted

The Kiwanis Craft Fair will be held Saturday, April 11 at the Deseret Peak Complex in conjunction with the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce Easter egg hunt at 9 a.m. All crafters wanted. Grantsville

Tree planting

Funding for the plantation of State Trees has been approved for Grantsville. The city has qualified to be a “Tree City USA” since 2003. The deadline for this year’s tree order, to buy one, get one free, is April 10. Applications are available at City Hall.

Easter Egg Hunt

Grantsville Business Alliance Easter Egg Hunt will take place in the city park south of Grantsville High School. Children will be allowed on the hunting site at 10:30 a.m. to line up around each age-designated hunting area (Special needs, 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12). A donation of one non-perishable food item for the food bank is requested for each hunter. The starting siren will be sounded at 11 a.m. by the Grantsville City Fire Department.

CERT meetings

All people who are CERT trained or anyone interested in CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is invited to our bi-monthly meetings. They will be held at 7 p.m. at the Fire Station in Stansbury Park on April 9 and 26, and May 7. The meeting on May 21 will be held at the Stansbury Park Clubhouse. Bookmobile storytime canceled

The Tooele County Bookmobile Library, 429 East Main, Grantsville, has canceled Story Time for April 9. Story Time will resume on Thursday, April 16 at 4 p.m.

April activities

The weekly movie is on April 8 at 3 p.m. This movie will be an exciting comic book adventure. This movie is rated PG-13. Be sure to watch the movie, then read the book. “Books are Egg-cellant” is April’s program theme. “Why do YOU love your library?” is our teen writing fun for all creative teens ages 10 through 18. It will begin April 1 and end on April 25.

SHS boys basketball meeting

A Stansbury High boys’ basketball meeting will be held at Clarke N. Johnsen Junior High on Monday, April 13, at 6 p.m. All students who will be attending Stansbury High and are interested in playing basketball are invited. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting.

THS community council

The Tooele High School Community Council will be meeting on April 15 at 7 p.m. in the library for their monthly community council meeting. Elections will be held for board members and leadership positions. Anyone interested being on the Community Council please attend.

TJHS community council

Tooele Junior High School Community Council meeting Wednesday, April 15, TJHS Library at 6:30 p.m. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Tooele Junior Prom

Tooele Junior Prom will be held April 17. The theme is a black tie affair and the song for the promenade dance “Feeling Good” by Michael Buble which will be at 9 p.m. at the Utah State Capitol Building. Ticket prices are $36 for a couple, $18 for a single and spectator tickets are $5. Tickets can be purchased through a participating THS student or at the high school.

St. Marguerite’s Catholic School is accepting applications for two teaching positions for the upcoming 2009-10 school year. Applications must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college and a valid Utah Teacher’s License, or be licensed within three years of hire. School playgrounds, practice fields

Attention, coaches for youth and adult recreation or accelerated sports programs, if you are planning or would like to use the Tooele County School District playgrounds or practice fields for your team practices/games you will need to go to the office of the school you wish to use and sign-up for times desired and provide proof of liability insurance. You can obtain proof of insurance from your league president.

Kindergarten registration 09-10

Kindergarten registration for Fall 2009 enrollment is currently being held at all elementary schools through the end of May 2009. To be eligible to enter kindergarten, your child must be at least 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2009. Title VII Indian Education Program will be having a public grant hearing for the 2009-2010 school year at Tooele High School on Tuesday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m.

Hunter ed courses

Hunter education courses will be held April 14, 16, 21-23 on 25th Range, all classes 6-9 p.m., range times TBA. State law requires students to attend all sessions of class. All students must go to a hunting license agent/vender and purchase a hunter education voucher for $10 prior to attending a class. Classes at Tooele County Health Building, 151 N. Home schooling info session

An information session from Washington Online School Utah will be held April 15 at 5 p.m. and May 14 and 5 p.m. in the Tooele City Library. Washington Online School Utah offers a public school option for schooling at home, tuition is free. This opportunity is available to all students in the state of Utah through the Washington School District. WOSU is a virtual public school using the K12 curriculum.

Concealed weapons permit classes

Concealed weapons permit classes for $35 will be held near Stockton April 25, June 20, July 11 and Aug. 15. Also a ladies-only pistol orientation (NRA first steps). Call 435-843-7954 for details.

Concealed firearm permit class

Casey Davies, of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department, will hold a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Class on April 25 from 8 a.m. to noon for $50 at Grantsville City Hall. Limited seating is available. Please RSVP at cdavies@q.com or call 801-301-1052. This four-hour all-inclusive calls fulfills the Utah training requirement and gets your application ready to submit. There is no live fire in this class.

Adult Education

Get your high school diploma. All classes for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers’ education and English as a second language available. Adults learn to drive

A driver education course for adults 18 and over will begin Tuesday, April 14, 6-9 p.m., at the Center. The class includes 18 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of driving and observation. Register from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $175 (current students receive a $70 discount). Pre-registration is required.

English as second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7-9 p.m. ESOL students may also come anytime the center is open for individualized study. Registration is $35 per semester.

‘Pinocchio’ auditions

The Tooele City Arts Council is sponsoring the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “Pinocchio.” Auditions will be held on Monday, April 20, from 4-6 p.m. at Copper Canyon Elementary (1600 N. Broadway, Tooele). Students kindergarten through the 8th grade are invited to audition. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Scrapbooking Free-For-All

The Tooele City Arts Council is sponsoring a Scrapbooking Free-For-All on Friday, April 17 from 7-10 p.m. at the Dow James Building (438 W. 400 N., Tooele). Tables and chairs will be provided. Saint Marguerite invites you all to our Holy Week services. Holy Thursday, April 9 at 7 p.m., Mass of the Last Supper. Good Friday, the Stations of the Cross at 3 p.m. and Veneration of the Cross and the Passion according to St. John, meditation on our Lord’s passion and death at 7 p.m. Easter vigil at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, baptisms of catechumens. The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome.
