Grantsville volleyball suffered a hard-fought loss in Logan. The Cowboys lost in five games, 26-24, 22-25, 19-25, 25-21 and 10-15. Jilliane Harris again did a great job setting up her teammates with 25 assists. Kelsi Wells had 10 kills and four blocks. Marissa Robbins and Ashley Bartlett had nine kills a piece in the losing effort. “It was not our strongest performance from top to bottom and we know we can do much better than that,” said Grantsville coach Heidi Heath. “The biggest factor is playing with good emotion and team work.”
THS Wall of Fame
The Tooele High School Wall of Fame committee is seeking applicants for consideration for the 2008-09 induction. Induction ceremonies will take place at the homecoming game on Oct. 10 when Tooele hosts region foe Payson. Applicants must be THS graduates who excelled in athletics while a student at THS and who may have continued their success in athletics beyond high school. Anyone interested may nominate a former athlete. The nomination must include a neatly typed letter, listing the applicant’s athletic accomplishments while in high school. It must also include the year the applicant graduated from THS. A good photograph of the applicant is also necessary. Newspaper articles, letters of recommendation and any other items that may assist in giving the committee information about the applicant should be included. Phone numbers to contact the nominating person must be included so the committee can contact someone after the selection has been made. The committee also needs to know if the nominated person would be available to attend the homecoming game if selected. The deadline for accepting nomination will be Friday, Sept. 26. Tooele golf
Tooele shot a 343 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course on Monday, which was good enough for sixth place. Orem took first with a 312. Tyler Abarca led the team with an 81 followed by Jake Holt with an 83. To round out the top four scores Chad Straub and Devin Park who shot 89 and 90 respectively. Tyler Butler recorded a 92 and Tayler Butler shot 97. Right now the Buffs stand in fourth place as a team. Jake Holt now stands in third place in medalist honors.
Grantsville golf
Grantsville shot a 370 at the challenging Mt. Ogden Golf course. Logan again continued their dominance of Region 11 with a 328. for first place. Andrew Talbott led Grantsville with an 82, while Trevor Hoffman followed with an 87. Rounding out the top five scores were Braeden Brooks with an 99 and Brock Lister and Tyson Terry tied with an 102. Garrett McBride fired an 106 while Davis May and Taylor Barnard shot 115 and 120 respectively. Grantsville now sits in fifth place in Region 11.
Golf for Ivy
A four-man scramble golf tournament is being held at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course to help the family of 3-month old Ivy Waters, who has cystic fibrosis, to raise money for medical expenses. The tournament is being held on Sept. 28 at a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fee will be the green and cart fees plus $13. Hole sponsors are still available for $50 a hole. Mascots face eighth graders
On Monday the Utah Jazz Bear will participate in the fifth annual Mascot Bowl at Lehi High School. The Lehi eight- grade football team will match up against an All-Star Mascot team, coached by Jason Buck, former NFL and BYU defensive lineman. Celebrity quarterbacks for the All-Star Mascots include Craig Bolerjack, play by play announcer for the Utah Jazz and Alema Harrington, host of “Powerhouse” on KJZZ. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. including food, prizes, contests, and a silent auction with fireworks set to conclude the event. The game ball will be delivered by skydivers. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased in advance at the Lehi High School financial office, Scrooge and Marley’s in Lehi, or at the gate the night of the event. Lehi High School is located at 180 North 500 East in Lehi, just off Interstate 15.
