Tooele County is the dumpsite for the world’s hazardous waste. What a disappointment to see in the Transcript-Bulletin that the county will no longer audit EnergySolutions (”County will no longer audit mitigation fees,” Jan. 10). All three Republican commissioners agreed that because the state already conducts the audits the county doesn’t need to. Can we trust the state? Gov. Huntsman’s says he has no objections to waste being dumped in Utah. Getting money in return for accepting hazardous waste is a bad deal — even worse if you get short changed. The county should make sure it receives all the money owed. Also, when EnergySolutions is gone, will the county still have to pay taxes toward maintaining this dump site? I no longer trust the county, especially after the lack of action regarding the ill effects of the Stockton gravel pit.
