Grantsville ninth-grader Raeann Langston placed first out of 72 competitors to win the overall championship at the State 4-H Horse Show in Vernal last month.
She finished fourth on the test, seventh in pole bending, ninth in the barrels, seventh overall in judging events and fifth overall in speed events.
Star Cassity also placed near the top in the ninth-grade division finishing fourth. Cassity placed eighth in horsemanship, 10th in reining, ninth in the flag race and seventh in speed events overall.
Tooele’s Julie Tonioli also competed in the show and placed first in horsemanship and eighth overall in judging events.
Kelcey Stephenson placed sixth on the test and Jami Huffaker received a “blue” in horsemanship.
Cassie Bahe finished ninth In intermediate events for those in sixth through eighth grades. She received a “blue” on the test, second in barrels, second in the poles and received “Reserve Speed Event Champion.”
Caitlyn Camp placed sixth in the flag race and received a “blue” in pole bending and was 16th overall in speed events.
Alana Zimmerman placed fourth in showmanship, fourth in reining and a “blue” in horsemanship and was fourth overall in judged events.
Holly Cox placed eighth on the test.
Casey Mangum received “blues” in showmanship, horsemanship and barrels.
Jessica Gowans was 15th overall in the junior division for girls in third through fifth grades. Gowans finished fourth on the test, seventh in horsemanship, 10th in pleasure and received a blue ribbon in reigning. She was 21st overall in the judged events and 18th overall in the speed events.
Lindsey Johnson placed second on the test.
Amma Bahe received a “blue” in the pole bending. Sylvia Cunningham and Hannah Pollock also competed.
Tooele County 4-H Club members also showed their skills in riding and training young horses under 5 years old as part of the “two-handed’ competition.
Tonioli claimed the overall championship with a first-place finish in showmanship, first in horsemanship, first in equitation and second in the trail class.
Kaitlyn Gowans received fourth overall by finishing fourth on the test, third in showmanship and a blue ribbon in the pleasure class. Kelcey Stephenson placed third on the test.
Lance Ruby finished fourth overall in the intermediate two-handed class. Ruby placed first in the trail class, third in equitation, fifth in showmanship and sixth on the test and “blue” in horsemanship. He was one of five contestants out of 75 who won blue ribbons in each event.
Brenna DeYoung finished sixth overall and 19th on the test.
Alana Zimmerman finished 10th overall placing third in showmanship and 15th on the test. Casey Mangum placed fourth in horsemanship. Chalayna Martineau and Hannah Frazier also competed.
In the junior two-handed division Sylvia Cunningham finished third overall with a third-place on the test, third in showmanship and second in trail.
The Utah 4-H Youth Development Horse Program brings youth, parents and volunteer adult leaders with an interest in horses and horsemanship skills, together to help them develop life skills and personal horsemanship skills through club work, training, competition and other horse and non-horse related activities.
