1930-2009

Our loving father, grandfather and friend, Charles Henry Brown Sr. passed away peacefully Sept. 9, 2009. He was born May 30, 1930 in Milton, Pa. He was married to Beatrice I. Kahley from 1950-1952. He later married the love of his life, Hilda L. Tucker in Fort Campbell, Ky. on Oct. 15, 1954. They remained married for 54 years until her recent passing on April 21, 2009.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1948. He served over 23 years in the U.S. Army where he honorably obtained the rank of Lt. Colonel and retired in 1971 as director of maintenance at Tooele Army Depot. During his time of service he was stationed in Germany and as well as Pakistan, Korea and Vietnam where he served as a military advisor. He was awarded three Legion of Merits for meritorious service as well as other various medals and commendations. He proudly served in prestigious units as the 1st Calvary Division, 11th Airborne Division and 101st Airborne Division.

After his retirement in 1971, he opened a family owned recreational vehicle business in Tooele where he sold and serviced campers, trailers, motor homes and motorcycles through 1988. In 1981 he became an investor in rental properties throughout the Tooele Valley, which he still owns and operated to this day.

He served two terms on the Tooele City Council and was proudly nominated chairman of the council. He loved challenges and solving problems, as well as hunting, camping and horseback riding. He will be missed for his dry wit, sense of humor and his generosity by all who knew him. He is survived by his sister Maude Darr of Middleton, Pa.; sons, George (Jenny) Brown of Yorba Linda, Calif.; Charlie (Susan Nagata) Brown of Salt Lake City; Robert (Sarah) Brown of Tooele; daughters Gloria (Ken Kratzer) of Middleburg, Pa.; Donna Brown (Gary Pelton) of Herndon, Va.; 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and caregiver and friend Cindy Johnson.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary (110 S. Main Street, Tooele). Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. (also at Tate Mortuary). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Lt. Colonel C. H. Brown to Shriners Hospital for Children (1275 Fairfax Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84103).
