Former Tooele resident Rosa Maria Pagan Rivera, born March 7, 1910, in Carolina, Puerto Rico to Juan and Maria Pagan, left this mortal existence on Oct. 2, 2009 after an incredible 99 1/2 year sojourn on this earth.

Rose and husband Rafael (Ralph), with their three children Rose Mary, Rafael and Margie along with Grandma Pagan in tow moved directly from Caguas, Puerto Rico to T.O.D. Park, in 1952 and eventually would move to the little house at 367 N. 2nd West in Tooele and which they would call home for the next 20 years.

Mom was an incredible woman. A little dynamo whose spirit was housed in a 4’9” tabernacle.

She was dedicated to raising her family in an area she grew to love with good neighbors and good friends. Mom never had a drivers license and literally walked everywhere. I believe this contributed to her longevity and good health. Rose never visited a doctor for an illness until the age of 93 when she had to have minor foot surgery.

Mom had many loves. Besides her family, she loved her daisies, tulips, fags, roses, and peonies. You would find Mom up early on a summer morning watering and tending to her flowers and enjoying the cool of the day.

One of Mom’s many talents was that she was extremely frugal. She was the one who handled the family finances and with the challenges of raising a family always seemed to have savings for a rainy day.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Maria Pagan, her beloved brother Juan, her husband Rafael (Ralph) and eldest daughter Rose Mary. Rose is survived by her son Rafael (Paula) of Pocatello, Idaho and daughter Margie of Boise, Idaho, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mom will be missed but we have been truly blessed to have had her with us for 99 1/2 years.

In March of 2009 all of Mom’s living posterity gathered together in Boise, Idaho for a celebration of her birth and life.

There will be a funeral Mass for Mom at Saint Mary’s, 2612 West State in Boise at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Abiding by Mom’s wishes she was cremated and will be buried in her family’s crypt in Carolina, Puerto Rico in November.
