Stansbury High School is sponsoring a little league wrestling program for boys in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. There is a $30 fee to participate. Jr. Buff basketball
The annual Winter Jr. Buff Basketball Clinic for students in grades first through eighth will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Tooele High School gyms. Cost is $5 and students can register at 1O:45 a.m. on the day of the clinic or by e-mail at rbrazier@tooelesd.org.
Seeking coaches
The Tooele Jr. Jazz program would like to talk to any individuals interested in coaching a group of athletes in the competitive league. This is different from the recreational program and will require some working knowledge in the schematics of basketball. Each applicant must have some form of resume with a coaching background and willing to submit to a security check, compensation for fulfilling coaching responsibility will be rewarded on a case-by-case basis. Jr. Stallion Basketball
Jr. Stallion Basketball registration is currently taking place. All basketball players (male/female), grades K-8th who attend Stansbury High boundary schools may register. Coed volleyball
TEAD MWR will host a winter recreational coed volleyball league if enough interest is shown. Contact the MWR office if you are interested or have a team. Play will begin in January and matches will be held on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings with match times at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Cost is $100 per team. USU routs SUU
Preston Medlin scored a career-high 17 points and Pooh Williams matched that total to lead Utah State past Southern Utah 89-49 Saturday night. Medlin made 5 of 6 from behind the 3-point line for the Aggies (3-2), who made 11 3-pointers as a team and shot 53 percent from the field. Southern Utah (3-4) shot just 26 percent from the field. The Thunderbirds were led by Ryan Brimley with 12 points and Davis Baker with 10. Utah State used an 18-0 run at the start of the second half to pull away, sparked by five consecutive points from Williams. The Aggies outrebounded Southern Utah 25-16 in the second half and forced 19 Thunderbird turnovers while committing only six themselves.
No. 1 meets No. 2
For the second straight season the Southeastern Conference championship game will be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. Again, it’ll be Florida against Alabama, but this time the Gators will be top-ranked. Florida extended its lead in the AP college football poll Sunday, receiving 46 first-place votes after routing rival Florida State 37-10. The Crimson Tide received seven first-place votes and 1,416 points to edge No. 3 Texas, which received seven first-place votes and 1,414 points. Both teams had close victories against in-state rivals over the Thanksgiving weekend.
