Tooele

Chamber of Commerce Santa parade

Tooele County Chamber of Commerce annual Santa parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. The parade route will begin at Vine Street and 200 West (City Park) and will continue north on 200 West to Utah Avenue, east to Main Street, south on Main Street, to 100 South, west to 50 West and end at Veterans Memorial Park. Meet Santa after the parade at Tooele City Hall, 90 N. Main St. from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free cookies, hot chocolate and bags of candy.

AARP driver safety program

A one-day four hour AARP driver safety program is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11 from 9:15 to 2:30 p.m. at Mountain West Medical Center. Cost is $14 or $12 upon showing a current AARP membership card. Call 843-3690 or 843-3691 for more information and to register.

Tooele County

Applications for families to apply for assistance for Christmas is open. Families and individuals may apply at 38 S. Main Street in the Tooele Community Resource Center until Dec. 4. You must apply in person, no phone applications will be taken. Please bring with you proof of address, Social Security cards for all household members of birth certificates for each child. All applications will be considered by a committee and letters will be sent out by Dec. 8. If you are a HeadStart parent you can apply at 222 N. Coleman Street with Annette or call her at 882-6743 ext 207.

The Federal Application Process

The Tooele Employment Center will be hosting an application workshop to assist job seekers applying for federal job announcements. The next scheduled workshop is on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at either 9:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Space is limited so call the Tooele Employment Center at (435) 833-7323 to reserve your spot today.

Adopt a pet

Save a life, adopt a pet. Rockstar Pets, in conjunction with volunteers from the Tooele and Grantsville animal shelters, has dozens of cute and cuddly cats of all ages who need a home this holiday season. To adopt a pet visit Rockstar Pets at 762 N. Main Street, Tooele.

Holiday craft workshop

The Tooele City Arts Council and the Arts and Craft Center at the Tooele Army Depot are offering the holiday craft workshop for the second time this season. There are many projects to choose from, and nothing is over $10. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Arts and Craft Center at Tooele Army Depot. If you want to do a specific project please preregister at Tooele City Hall (90 North Main Street) by Dec. 7. If you are unable to preregister, please join us to choose from the kits that will be available. You can also pre-order kits and pick them up to finish at home, if you can’t attend on the 9th. Holiday concert

The Tooele City Arts Council is sponsoring a holiday concert featuring the Crescent Super Band. The concert will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Tooele High School auditorium. The cost is one can of food that will go to the Tooele Food Bank. Tickets will be for reserved seating. There is no guarantee that there will be tickets available at the door. So, come soon to Tooele City Hall (90 North Main Street) to exchange your cans of food for tickets. You won’t want to miss this family friendly concert. 12 Days of Christmas activity

Tooele City Family Recreation and the Tooele Boys and Girls Club would like to invite families of all ages to participate in the Twelve Days of Christmas Family Activity. The event will be held on Monday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dow James Building (438 W. 400 N.) Your family will make 12 gifts to share with a family or individual in need. There is no charge to participate in the activity, but we do ask that you pre-register by Thursday, Dec. 10 so, we can make sure to have enough supplies for everyone. There will be limited space so register soon. To pre-register contact Tooele City Parks and Recreation at 843-2142.

Christmas boutique

Pictures with Santa/Christmas Boutique will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Stansbury Clubhouse. Bring your camera to take pictures with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon and 12:30-2 p.m. Shop the vendor booths (interested vendors contact Tamra stansburybooths@gmail.com).

December activities

Dec. 1 will be the beginning of our “Stay on track with a good book!” theme. Our “Discover Fun” and “Writing Fun” will begin on the 1st as well. Don’t forget to bring in you coloring sheet from the Transcript Bulletin Coloring Book by Dec. 24. Winners will be announced at our New Year’s noon party. This week our “Movies @ your Tooele City Library” is scheduled on the following day: Thursday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. will be a fun animated film. This movie is rated G. Write a letter to Santa at the library and we will make sure he receives it. Thursday Dec. 10 will be a fun “Polar Express” story time at 1 p.m. with games and crafts. The library will be closed for Christmas on Dec. 25 and for New Years Day, Jan. 1.

Parent signatures for Internet

Patrons 17 years of age and under can use the Internet and computers only with a parent’s signature on file at the Tooele City Library. Call for details or visit the library.

Weekly story time

Remember children’s story time every Wednesday at 11 a.m. and children’s crafts each Friday from 3-5 p.m. Check with the library for any special story times or other special events. SHS community council

Community council will meet this week on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in the library. Mid term grades were handed out Monday night during parent teachers conferences so if you were not able to attend, they can be picked up in the counseling office at the high school.

Dance concerts

Tooele High School’s Dance Company and Z-Motion (ballroom dance team) are performing a concert called Dare to Move on Dec. 4 and 5 at 7 p.m.

Settlement Canyon council

The Settlement Canyon Elementary School Community Council will meet Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in the school library. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Craft fair

Middle Canyon Elementary School’s eighth annual craft fair will be held Dec. 4 from 5-9 p.m. and Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

St. Marguerite’s school opening

St. Marguerite’s Catholic School has openings in the 3-year-old morning preschool class and the 4-year-old morning and afternoon preschool classes. If interested please contact Ms. Deanna in the office at 882-0081.

SHS Festival of Lights

Calling for local performance groups to participate in Stansbury High’s Festival of Lights, Dec. 7-11. Performance days and times available: Monday, Dec. 7, 6-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, 6, 6:30, 7, 7:30 and 8 p.m., Wednesday through Friday the same as Tuesday. On a first come, first serve basis for choosing days and times. We are also looking for entries in the light festival. Download the entry form from stansburyhigh.org. Adult Education

Get your high school diploma this year. All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers’ education and English as a second language are available. Register now to graduate — just $50 per semester. Located at 76 S. 1000 W., call 833-1994. Adult Education classes are for students 18 and over.

Take GED

The GED test will be given on Dec. 8, starting at 8 a.m. Please contact Andrea at 833-1994 by Dec. 4. Pre-registration is required.

English as a Second Language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7-9 p.m. ESOL students may also come anytime the center is open for Individualized study. Registration is $50 per semester. Call 833-1994.

Children’s campus for Christmas

On Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 5-9 p.m. the students of USU will be providing a free service to the parents of Tooele County by opening the campus to the kids. Register your children, ages 3-11, for a parent-free night of fun with crafts, movies, dinner, games and snacks. Please pre-register online tooelechristmas@live.com or on the USU campus, 1021 W. Vine Street, Dec. 7-11 from 5-8 p.m. Registration will be accepted up until Dec. 15. Accepting the first 100 kids, register now.

Annual pancake breakfast

The Marine Corps League’s third annual pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Eagle’s Nest. All proceeds will be donated to the Tooele Operation Christmas. Cost is $5 all you can eat for adults.

Tooele County Toy Trade

The first Tooele County Toy Trade will be held Saturday, Dec. 5 at Rose Springs Elementary in Stansbury Park. Bring any old or outgrown toys that you can sell or trade. Setup will be from 8-9 a.m. with trading and selling from 9-11:30 a.m. This is a non-profit event sponsored by Rose Springs PTA. Volunteer opportunity

Rocky Mountain Care Foundation, a nonprofit organization is looking for volunteers in Tooele. Our volunteers provide respite care, friendly visits, conversation, light household chores, and other needs to terminally ill patients who are on our hospice services. Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering an emergency food pantry and clothing closet to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. The food pantry is available for emergency needs. Hours of operation are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. We are located at 580 S. Main St. For information call 882-2048.

Donations needed

The Tooele Church of Christ is accepting donations for the Women’s Shelter. They need women’s socks and children’s clothing. Please help. 882-4642, 430 W. Utah Ave., Tooele.

Memorial service

The Tooele Elks Memorial Service will be on Sunday, Dec. 6. The service will begin at 11 a.m. It will take place in the Lodge Room.

Monday night dinners

On Dec. 7 we will be serving green chili with all the fixings. Cost is $5.

Moose Lodge

Monday night dinners

The Lodge is doing $5 Monday night dinners. Don’t worry about cooking on Monday nights, come to the Moose and enjoy some great homemade food and watch a football game.

Saturday night dinners

Saturday night rib-eye steak and salmon dinners for members and their guests. Members get a free dinner in their birthday month.

Eagles

Needy Kids Xmas Stocking Auction

On Friday, Dec. 4, the Eagles annual Xmas Stocking Auction will be held at the Lodge in conjunction with Friday night steaks. This activity is to raise money to help give the needy kids a Christmas. Last year the Eagles did this for 27 children and more children will help this year. Fill your stockings and bring them to the hall anytime, but by 8 p.m. that evening. James Wrathall will be the auctioneer. Please help us out with this most worthwhile project. See you all there with your stockings.

New Girl Scouts program

Girl Scouts of America is looking for volunteers who would like to participate in a great new Girl Scouts program coming to Grantsville. Challenge and Change is a program sponsored by Girl Scouts of Utah designed for girls ages 14-17 who are interested in designing and leading projects that strengthen their own communities. We are looking for volunteers to work with the girls as they plan and implement their projects. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to make a meaningful change in their community. Adult volunteers offer leadership training and support to the girls throughout the project experience. All training, training materials and funding for projects is provided. Grantsville is one of only five communities in Utah that was chosen to take part in this unique program. No previous experience with Girl Scouts is necessary. Tooele County Historical Society

The Tooele County Historical Society’s Dec. 8 will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature Sheriff Frank Park. His presentation will be on the history of Tooele County law enforcement and past sheriffs of the county. Our meeting will be in the Pioneer Museum at 47 E. Vine Street, enter at the back door. Guests are welcome. If you want to become a member, the dues are $5 a year.

Old Lincoln Highway sign

The Tooele County Historical Society has recently made a loan agreement with the Utah State Historical Society to display an old Lincoln Highway sign that was on the border of Utah and Nevada. This unique sign is on display at the Pioneer Museum and can be seen right after our Tooele County Historical meeting on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.

Books available

Tooele County Historical Society’s books will be available to purchase at our Dec. 8 meeting. “The History of Tooele County Volume II” is $25. “The Mining, Smelting and Railroading in Tooele” is $15 and we also have eight note cards depicting four different pioneer buildings for $4. WDARC

The West Desert Amateur Radio Club will be holding their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. in the new Tooele County Emergency Management building. The location is on the corner of Main Street at 100 South. We will be meeting in the conference room. We will be holding elections and having our annual Christmas party. Please be in attendance.

Crochet Circle

Starting a Crochet Circle. Teaching each other and sharing what we know. First meeting set for Thursday, Dec. 3, In the Tooele City Library, at 1:30 p.m. We’ll be discussing what our first project should be and materials needed. Girl Scouts

This year, give your daughter the gift of the Girl Scout experience by attending our Girl Scout celebration of holidays around the world. The Healing Hearts

The Healing Hearts is a free group for families who have ever lost a child, delivered a stillborn or had a miscarriage. Meet with other families that have suffered a loss. We are parents living through the grief process together. Come and share experiences, coping skills and comfort methods. Family members and close friends (support) are welcome. LDS porn addiction program

An LDS Pornography Addiction Recovery Support group meeting will be held every Friday evening starting at 7:30 p.m. in the High Council room of the Stansbury Stake Center, 417 E. Benson Road, Stansbury Park. This meeting is specifically related to recovery from pornography addition. Entrance on the southwest of building. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.
