A fire Monday night in Lake Point left a home in ruins and its three residents displaced.
Firefighters responded to the call at 8200 North Mountain View Lane at around 9 p.m. Monday and saw smoke and flames coming out of the house, according to Kirk Arnold, battalion chief with the North Tooele County Fire District. Upon arrival, all residents had already evacuated the home. It took firefighters approximately a half hour to put out the fire, Arnold said.
Roughly half of the house was gutted by the fire and the other half suffered extensive smoke and water damage.
The home was occupied by Nita Moore, 61, her father Junius Brown, 90, and her sister Pam Tenney, 48. Brown and Tenney spent Monday night at a motel, but Moore said she spent the night parked in her driveway with her dog Nicky keeping her company. All her salvaged belongings were on the front lawn, and she wanted to watch them, Moore said.
“I don’t have a clue what I’m going to do,” said Moore. “It happened so quick. I’m thankful to God that I was here to help my dad, and I’m thankful for my neighbors.”
Those neighbors brought Moore food, clothing, blankets and money, she said.
Though she’s not positive, Moore suspects the fire was caused by a candle she left burning in her bathroom as she was getting her and her father ready for bed.
Damage to the home is estimated at $80,000, according to fire officials.
