Safe driving class
AARP safe driving class sponsored by Mountain West Medical Center Senior Circle will be held on Friday, April 23 at MWMC. The class will run from 9-11:30 a.m., with lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. furnished by MWMC Senior Circle. Class resumes form 12:30- 2:30 p.m. The cost is $14 with a certificate issued at the end of the class that may get you a discount on your insurance for three years. Earth Day event
Green Box Recycling is celebrating Earth Day on April 22. We are inviting all people and businesses that have a green focus to participate. The event will cover recycling techniques and tips, adoption of troubled illegal dumping areas, arranging recycling drop off areas for Lake Point, Grantsville, Stockton and Rush Valley. HEAT program
The Utah Division of Housing and Community Development says Utah will extend the Home Energy Assistance Target Program application deadline until May 31 or until all funds are spent. Utah has received about $25.4 million in HEAT funds to assist eligible low-income households in meeting their home heating and cooling needs. Obedience classes
KDK9s Basic Obedience Class for all ages of dogs. Six week class starts April 19, at 6 p.m. The first class will be held at Cal Ranch. $89.00 per dog, limit 10 dogs per class. One free training lead included. Week one – dog psychology (no dogs, two hour class). Weeks 2-6 – learning the basics (one hour class). Private training for problem areas also available. Gardening workshop
A gardening workshop will be held on Saturday, April 17 at the Grantsville West Stake (115 E. Cherry Street, pavilion behind stake center) from 1-2 p.m. Information will be given on soil preparation, watering and fertilization.
Grantsville Irrigation
The Grantsville Irrigation system is now on. Residential users are allowed 250,000 gallons per share. We will begin reading meters May 15. Agricultural users have been issued one use-or-lose turn to be used by May 15 as well as one regular turn. If you notice any leaks or abuse please contact the office at 884-3451.

The Friends of the Library bookstore has received several boxes of books which have been “weeded” from the Tooele City Library shelves. Most of them are non-fiction, and there are many biographies, historical collections, etc. We will be selling these books for 50 cents each for the next two weeks. Grantsville High School is hosting their annual Sterling Scholar Show. The entire community is invited to enter work in the following categories: painting, drawing, mixed media, multi-media, photography (minimum size 8x10), pottery. Summer food service
The Tooele County School District announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. Free meals will be made available to all children through age 18 starting June 14 and will run until Aug. 13, except July 5. Breakfast will be served from 8-9 a.m. and lunch from 12-1 p.m. Locations will be at Harris Elementary, 251 North 1st Street, Tooele; Northlake Elementary, 268 N. Coleman St., Tooele; and Wendover High School, 110 Wildcat Blvd., Wendover. Meals will also be available to adults — lunch is $2.85 and breakfast $1.45. Adults are not permitted to eat off children’s trays.

Washington Online School Utah is offering online information sessions for April and May. SHS Spring Review
Stansbury High School Drama Program announces Spring Review. The Stansbury High School Drama Program announces it’s upcoming Musical Theatre Class’ Spring Musical Review, “More of Our Favorite Things.” Performances for this show will be April 22, 24 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Stansbury High is looking for donations of usable furniture and clothing to help build his costume and furniture supply. Just a reminder, all seniors must have their no-grades cleared by May 14 in order to walk at graduation. Junior prom will take place at the state capital on Friday, April 16. The promenade is at 7 p.m. with the dance to follow. There will also be an after prom party at the high school for all juniors immediately following the dance. Food and fun will be provided for those in attendance. Our next Community Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. in the library.

Kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration for fall 2010 enrollment is currently being held at all elementary schools through the end of May 2010. Each child entering kindergarten must have a prescreening assessment. This assessment will be scheduled by your school prior to the end of this school year. It is important to have your child registered to receive an assessment time. To be eligible to enter kindergarten, your child must be at least 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2010. SHS promenade practice
Promenade practice for juniors will run April 13-15 from 7-9 p.m. in the gym. Promenade is couples choice not girls choice this year. Prom is held this year on Friday, April 16 at the Capitol Rotunda.

We will be holding our last Indian education parent advisory committee meeting for the 2009-2010 school year at Tooele High at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21. Welding class
A short-term intensive 40-hour intermediate welding class will begin on April 13. This class is for anyone who has basic welding skills and would like to upgrade those skills. Highway sign
The Tooele County Historical Society has recently made a loan agreement with the Utah State Historical Society to display an Old Lincoln Highway sign that was on the border of Utah and Nevada. This unique sign is on display at the Pioneer Museum and can be seen right after our meeting on April 13 at 7 p.m.

Sewing guild
The Tooele group of the American Sewing Guild will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 14 in the conference room at the Extension office beginning at 9 a.m. We will be sewing fleece hats and mittens for the Kiwanis organization. This is a good opportunity to help those in need. The items will be cut out when we get there so all we need to do is bring a sewing machine, white thread, pins and scissors to cut thread. The camp will be held at the Tooele Teen Center, 102 N. 7th Street from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and at the Dow James Building from 2:30-5:30 p.m. We provide transportation to the open reception site.
Kiwanis meetings

Alzheimer’s caregivers
A support group for Alzheimer’s caregivers is open to anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia (memory issues). Learn about the disease. Get/share ideas. Program openings

LDS addiction recovery
LDS Family Services addiction recovery meetings every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the LDS chapel on 1030 S. 900 West, in the Relief Society room, Tooele. Enter on the west side of the church. The handicap entrance is on the south side of the church. This meeting addresses all addictions or character weaknesses. No children please. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.
LDS addiction family support
If you have a loved one who is struggling with addictions of any kind, find help and support Sunday evenings from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Erda Ward building at 323 E. Erda Way. Enter on the east side of the building and go into the Relief Society room. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.
LDS porn addiction program
An LDS Pornography Addiction Recovery Support group meeting will be held every Friday evening from 7:30-9 p.m., Stansbury Stake Center, 417 E. Benson Road, Stansbury Park. Enter on the southwest side of building. Separate men’s recovery (for men struggling with pornography addictions) and women’s support meetings (for women whose husbands or family members are struggling with pornography) are held at the same time. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.
The Healing Hearts
The Healing Hearts is a free group for families who have ever lost a child, delivered a stillborn or had a miscarriage. Meet with other families that have suffered a loss. We are parents living through the grief process together. Come and share experiences, coping skills and comfort methods. Family members and close friends (support) are welcome.
