Editorial in poor taste

I attended the Republican convention as a county delegate on Friday, April 23. Chris Sloan, Christy Achziger and their team did an outstanding job of administering the ballots and making time available for candidates to speak, including Gov. Gary Herbert and the U.S. Senate and congressional incumbents and challengers. I, too, thought the private meeting held, apparently at the request of Gov. Herbert, was inappropriate, and that the governor could have received the information he desired from the delegates as well as elected officials. The real disappointment to me as a citizen of Tooele County is how the Tooele Transcript-Bulletin editorial board blasted Joyce Hogan (“Private meeting tarnished Republican convention”), maliciously bringing up past history relative to Tooele County Attorney Doug Hogan. Because the writer of the Transcript had the power of the pen, negative, malicious allegations were unnecessarily presented to the readers. Poor taste in my opinion.

How were the comments about Hogan malicious? They were simply true. Her conduct at past conventions is certainly relevant to this conduct at this year's convention.

It was a good editorial and story.
