THS out in front at region track meet

Most of the final events are scheduled for today at the Region 6 track meet at Woods Cross, but Tooele dominated in three girls events which concluded on Wednesday.

Tooele placed first in the shot put, javelin and long jump finals on Wednesday and racked up 47 points in the process. Bountiful is in second place with 23 points and Woods Cross is third with 21 points.

Tooele’s Airica Stewart and Cassidee Christensen placed first and second respectively in the long jump to pile up 18 team points for the Buffaloes. Stewart’s winning leap of 15’9” gave Tooele 10 points and Christensen was just one inch behind at 15’8” for second and 8 points. Jenna Becker of Stansbury was sixth in the long jump.

The Buffaloes piled up 15 points in the shot put on day one with Rylee Mulitalo tossing the shot 39’04”. Becca Smaellie finished fourth with a toss of 31’01”.

Smaellie chalked up 10 points for the Buffaloes when she finished first in the javelin with a throw of 115’9”. Becca Shumway of Stansbury finished fourth in the event with a toss of 99’2” and Carlee Bunn of Tooele placed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 97’02”.

Tooele should continue to pick up points on Thursday with several exceptional sprinters on the team.

Jessica Anderson and Alyssa Banks of Tooele and Jentry Principe and Lauren Beilfus of Stansbury qualified for the 100 meter hurdles finals today.

Tooele’s Terry Lindsay clocked the fastest time in the 100 meter preliminaries on Wednesday and will run in the region finals along with teammates Christensen and Airica Stewart. Stansbury’s Beilfus also qualified in the 100 meter dash.

Tooele’s Anderson and Emily Turner will compete in the 300 meter hurdles region finals today along with Erika Alvey of Stansbury.

Stansbury’s Abbi Beazer finished sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 5:45.16 with Tooele’s Amy Shields was seventh and Stansbury’s Bronwyn Douglas eighth.

Tooele’s Terry, Airica Stewart and Christensen all qualified to run in the 200 meter dash finals today.

Qualifying to run in the 110 meter boys hurdles finals were Tooele’s Angel Medina and Fred Beacham and Stansbury’s Justin Powell.

Running in today’s 100-meter finals will be Ky Bender of Stansbury along with Milo Leakehe and Nick Hyde of Tooele.

Tooele’s Colter Rockwell and Travis Brady will compete in the 400 meter dash finals as will Stansbury’s Luke Jones.

Tooele’s Beacham and Medina and Powell of Stansbury will run in the 300 meter hurdles today. Bender of Stansbury and Hyde and Beacham of Tooele will run in the 200 meter dash.

Chace Marshall of Stansbury finished sixth in the discus on Wednesday while James DeSantiago was ninth.
