Food drop
The Utah Food Bank will hold the next drop on Friday, May 7 at Deseret Peak Complex. Sign-ups will start at 7 a.m. Only those in line before 10:30 a.m. will be signed up. The volunteer workers must have the food distributed so the site can be cleaned and cleared by noon. Carpooling is encouraged, especially for those who have no other transportation. Family Fitness Challenge

Dairy Princess pageant
The annual Dairy Princess/Ambassador Pageant is set for June 12. Young women interested in participating can pick up information packets from Cheryl Adams in the County Commission Office at the county building. Scholarships in the amount of $650 will be given to the Princess and the two attendants will receive $350. To be eligible you must be a single (never been married) junior or senior in the 2009-2010 school year at a Tooele County High School, or have a high school diploma or equivalent and be no older than 23, maintain a 3.0 GPA and be willing to promote a healthy lifestyle. Settlement Canyon Irrigation
Settlement Canyon Irrigation shareholders can expect the irrigation water to be turned on Saturday, May 1. Please make sure your valves are open. There will be a weekend restriction in place. HEAT program
The Utah Division of Housing and Community Development says Utah will extend the Home Energy Assistance Target Program application deadline until May 31 or until all funds are spent. Utah has received about $25.4 million in HEAT funds to assist eligible low-income households in meeting their home heating and cooling needs. Rodeo grounds fundraiser
A rodeo jam fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 22 from 1-6 p.m. at the Grantsville Rodeo Grounds Pavilion. The event is to raise funds to help bring rodeos back to Grantsville, for the events and to make the grounds suitable for riders. The Grantsville Irrigation system is now on. Residential users are allowed 250,000 gallons per share. We will begin reading meters May 15. The Tooele County Bookmobile Library, Grantsville, is participating in the Utah State Fair, Read and Win Program, open to children who are between the ages 6-12 as of Sept. 1, 2010. Bookmobile story time canceled
The Tooele County Bookmobile Library has discontinued the Story Time Program as of April 29. Story Time will resume in September. The Summer Reading Program, with the theme, “Make Waves @ Your Library” will begin on Thursday, June 10 at 4 p.m. in the Grantsville City Hall. Summer food service
The Tooele County School District announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. Free meals will be made available to all children through age 18 starting June 14 and will run until Aug. 13, except July 5. Breakfast will be served from 8-9 a.m. and lunch from 12-1 p.m. Locations will be at Harris Elementary, 251 North 1st Street, Tooele; Northlake Elementary, 268 N. Coleman St., Tooele; and Wendover High School, 110 Wildcat Blvd., Wendover. Meals will also be available to adults — lunch is $2.85 and breakfast $1.45. Adults are not permitted to eat off children’s trays.

Kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration for fall 2010 enrollment is currently being held at all elementary schools through the end of May 2010. Each child entering kindergarten must have a prescreening assessment. This assessment will be scheduled by your school prior to the end of this school year. It is important to have your child registered to receive an assessment time. To be eligible to enter kindergarten, your child must be at least 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2010. Marriage enhancement classes
The Tooele County Healthy Marriage Coalition is sponsoring these fun, hands-on classes for couples. The series of classes will be held on Fridays and will run May 7, 14, 21. All classes are from 7-9 p.m. at 151 N. Main (Health/Extension Building). Free baby-sitting on-site will be provided. The cost is $20, but is free to those who are income eligible. WIC guidelines are used to determine eligibility. Each couple who attends all five classes will receive a $30 grocery gift card. Couples will receive activity books and other materials. On May 6, the Settlement Canyon Sons of Utah Pioneers will be holding their monthly meeting at the Tooele Senior Citizens Center. Dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. Please bring your pot-luck dish and eating utensils to enjoy a night of good food and entertainment together.
Cub Scout Leader Roundtable
Cub Scout leaders for all positions throughout Tooele County will join together on Thursday, May 6, 7:30 p.m. at Tooele Jr. High School AV room. Cub Scouters will share various helps and hints for working with packs and dens. We will also present the upcoming June theme and ideas for “Hoop-De-Doo!” Join us and stay up-to-date on district and council Cub Scouting activities.
Cattlemen’s banquet
The 2010 Cattlemen’s Association banquet will be held at Tooele High School cafeteria on May 7 at 6:30 p.m. We have a great meal planned as well as quality entertainment. Boys & Girls Club
A summer camp for the Boys & Girls Club for youth ages 6-12 will be held for 11 weeks from June 7 through Aug. 20. Interested, call 843-5719 or 224-9300, space is limited. Weekly rate is $70, daily rate is $28. Early summer special: pay in full by May 30 and get one week free. The camp will be held at the Tooele Teen Center, 102 N. 7th Street from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and at the Dow James Building from 2:30-5:30 p.m. We provide transportation to the open reception site.

Alzheimer’s caregivers
Open to anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia (memory issues). Learn about this disease. Get/share ideas. Discuss experiences with others. No meeting in May.
