The intersection of SR-36 and SR-138 in Stansbury Park was the scene of yet another high-speed accident Wednesday — just two days after a crash in the same location left a UPS delivery truck driver dead.
According to Trooper Ty Roberts of the Utah Highway Patrol, a 29-year-old Tooele woman was traveling in the southbound lanes of SR-36 when she became distracted and ran a red light.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee she was driving T-boned a Nissan Xterra — driven by a 28-year-old Cottonwood Heights man — that was turning left off of SR-138 onto SR-36 on a green light at approximately 3:42 p.m., according to Roberts.
“When I got there, I thought, ‘No way.’ It happened in the same spot as the previous accident,” Roberts said.
Both vehicles were severely damaged in the accident, but both drivers walked away from the scene without injury, Roberts said.
UHP shut down one of the southbound lanes for 15 to 20 minutes while the accident scene was cleaned up, but Roberts said the closure had little effect on traffic.
