Grantsville star

Grantsville’s Sammie Jensen scored 72 points in the last four victories for the Cowboys and was named as one of the top three players of the week in the state. Jensen is 13th in scoring per game in the state and a great leader for her team, according to the coach. The 6-foot tall Jensen can play anywhere on the floor, hit the 3-point shot and post up inside. She has recorded four straight double-doubles. Grantsville is currently on a five-game winning streak after defeating Lehi 71-53 on Tuesday and will host No.1-ranked Carbon on Jan. 6.

Jazz road trip

The Utah Jazz concluded their five-game road swing on Tuesday night with a 94-86 loss to Milwaukee. The Jazz finished the trip east with a 2-3 record . The Milwaukee Bucks entered the game with a pair of wins including a 119-85 throttling of the L. A. Clippers on Saturday night. The Jazz are still playing without the services of Carlos Boozer. At Monday’s practice another Jazzman joined Boozer on the sidelines, Deron Williams did not participate in Monday’s drills due to a right calf contusion he suffered in the Chicago game Saturday night, but returned on Tuesday night to score 17 points in the losing effort while Andre Kirilenko led the way with 22 points. Other injuries include Jarron Collins, who is still out with an injured right elbow, and Carlos Boozer who is awaiting the results from a third MRI following two inconclusive MRI checkups. This is the second and final meeting between these two teams for the 2008-09 campaign; Utah took the first game 105-94 back on Nov. 19, the very game in which Carlos Boozer was initially injured. The Jazz are 40-40 all-time against the Bucks and had won 8-straight versus the team from Wisconsin until tonight’s loss. The Jazz will host Dallas on Friday and play at Houston on Saturday.

More honors for MMP

Miller Motorsports Park was named the 2008 World Superbike Organizer Award from the FGS Organization, the operator of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship. Miller Motorsports Park hosted the return of the HANNspree FIM World Superbike Championship to North America over the weekend of May 29 – June 1, 2008. The HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship is the world’s third-largest racing series; events are broadcast live on 95 networks in 173 countries around the world to an estimated viewing audience of 120 million. The HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship StriVectin-SD USA Round presented by HANNspree was the biggest event in the three-year history of Miller Motorsports Park, attracting record crowds and international attention. In a congratulatory letter, Paolo Flammini, CEO of the FGS Organization, said, “It is a wonderful achievement for any circuit to win this award, but it is exceptional to win it after only one year of collaboration with FGS Organization. In such a short period of time, Miller Motorsports Park succeeded in putting on one of the best-organised and most successful events of the entire championship, well up to the standards required for World Superbike championship level. The high level of professionalism and commitment of the whole circuit management and staff, with regard to the organisation of the WSB Round, has been the key factor in winning this prestigious Superbike Award. The top management of FGS Organization together with its staff have carefully analysed each aspect, from an organisational, promotional and sporting point of view appointing Miller Motorsports Park as the best circuit of the year.” Greg Miller, CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, said, “It is an honor for Miller Motorsports Park to have been named the recipient of this prestigious award. It certainly reflects well on our management and staff, who worked very diligently and conscientiously to ensure that our FIM Superbike World Championship event was successful.” The HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship returns to Miller Motorsports Park over the weekend of May 29-31, 2009.
