Stansbury volleyball

Stansbury High School will hold volleyball tryouts on Monday, Aug. 9 through Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the main gym. Sessions will be held from 9 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Tooele volleyball

Tooele High School volleyball tryouts will be held on Monday, Aug. 9 and Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Prospects need to be at all four sessions of tryouts. Players should bring a tryout checklist form and a completed physical form. The forms can be printed from www.uhsaa.org. Tooele tennis

Tryouts for the THS women’s tennis team will be held on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the high school courts. Students in grades 9th through 12th are invited to participate.

Rodeo events

A youth rodeo, ranch rodeo and a bull riding competition will be held on Friday in conjunction with the Tooele County Fair at the outdoor arena at Deseret Peak Complex. The youth rodeo starts at 7 p.m. with the ranch rodeo and bull riding starting at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Demolition derby

The Tooele County Fair Demolition Derby will be held on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the motorized arena at Deseret Peak Complex. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids. A family pass for two adults and four kids costs $30. Gates open at 4 p.m.

Coed softball

A coed softball tournament will be held Friday night and Saturday morning at the Deseret Peak Complex. Action will start at 7 p.m. on Friday and continue at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Entry fee is $50 per team.

World Superbikes

Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) was the undisputed star of the Silverstone show in England on Sunday as he added two race wins to his superpole triumph on Saturday. He is also the new lap record holder, thanks to a 2:05.259 lap in race one. Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) lost a small amount of ground at the top of the championship, with his fifth and sixth places Sunday as Leon Haslam scored a second and a fourth on his Suzuki Alstare machine. Biaggi now has 373 points, Haslam 313, a difference of 60 with three rounds and six races left to run. The 65,000 weekend crowd saw Jonathan Rea (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) take two strong second places, consolidating his third place overall in the series on 243 points. Leon Camier, Biaggi’s team-mate was third in race two, his first podium since Miller Motorsport Park in May.

Dodgeball

Utah Jazz guards Deron Williams and Ronnie Price and former teammate, Kyle Korver, are excited to announce information regarding the 2010 Dodge Barrage, a charity dodgeball tournament. This year’s event is scheduled for Sept. 18 at the Salt Palace Convention Center. It will benefit local foundations to support people in need throughout the Salt Lake City area. The NBA players are encouraging local competitors to start assembling their teams now and begin training at once. Registration opened online at www.pointofhopefoundation.org on Monday and is expected to fill very quickly. Last year the event was capped at 40 teams with a huge waiting list. This year the event is expanding will have a maximum of 96 teams.

Off-road racing

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series makes its only 2010 Southern California visit this Friday through Sunday at Glen Helen Motorsports Park in Devore for races nine and 10 in the 16-event championship series. This is World-Class Short Track Racing close-up and personal on a specially-designed and built course that will test driver and machine to the very limits on every foot, every yard, every jump, switch-back, and tabletop as it snakes 1 mile through some of the toughest terrain in the county. Races seven and eight were held on June 26 and 27 at Miller Motorsports Park.

Osprey watching

Large fish-eating birds called ospreys will be the center of attention on Saturday. That’s the day the Division of Wildlife Resource’s Watchable Wildlife program will host a free field trip to see the birds. With their five-foot wing span, the ospreys will be easy to see. To participate in the field trip, meet at the Rockport Reservoir dam from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
