A semi hit and killed a pedestrian trying to hitchhike in the eastbound lanes on I-80 near Wendover at about 6 a.m. Wednesday.
According to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Craig Ward, the pedestrian was possibly in the lane of travel trying to get traffic to stop for him.
The tractor trailer was in the right lane traveling eastbound, and the driver did not see the 44-year-old Salt Lake City man, who was reportedly wearing dark clothing.
As of press time, the UHP had not released the hitchhiker's name.
