The Grantsville High School softbal team won its eighth straight game Tuesday with an 11-1 shellacking of lowly Ben Lomond. The Scots have not won a game this year.

The Cowboys scored three runs in the first inning, seven in the second and one more in the third to end the home game after the top half of the fifth inning.

Grantsville junior pitcher Lindsey Dalton struck out seven and allowed two hits in the shortened game.

Mallory Oltjenbruns, Annie Young and Krysta Taylor pounded consecutive hits and all scored in the first inning with Lynnzie Valdez also coming through with a hit.

The fireworks continued in the second inning with Kelsie Wells walking to start things off followed by a single from Korryn Coates, double from Oltjenbruns, single from Young and double from Taylor. Wells, Coates, Oltjenbruns and Young all scored. Then the Scots got a bit sloppy and the Cowboys took advantage as Melissa Baird, Valdez and Dalton were able to score on miscues.

Young scored her third run and Grantsville's 11th in the third inning. The junior center fielder scored three runs on three hits to lead the team. Taylor also turned in a three-hit performance and Oltjenbruns was two-for-three at the plate with a pair of doubles.

Grantsville plays at Ogden on Friday. The Tigers are also struggling with a 1-6 record.
