With winter on its way, Tooele City residents are being reminded not to park overnight on city streets so that snowplow crews can keep them properly plowed.
The city will be enforcing the no-park regulation between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. every day of the week from Nov. 1 through March 31.
"Keeping cars off streets at night makes them easier to plow," said Tooele City Police Lt. Paul Wimmer.
Winter street parking rules apply to all streets, whether commercial or residential.
Beyond emergency vehicles, "there are no exceptions," said Wimmer.
Anyone parking on the street will be ticketed.
"The first citation is $15 with 20 days to pay," Wimmer said. "Between 21 and 30 days it will be $20, and will continue to grow $5 for every 19 days it remains unpaid."
Each year, parked cars are damaged or buried by passing snowplows and salt. In some cases, portions of streets go unplowed because parked cars block access for snowplow crews.
"We would also like to see basketball hoops pulled off the street as well," Wimmer added.
