Tryouts for the Grantsville High School boys basketball team will be held Monday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m. in the main gymnasium. A parents meeting for boys who want to try out for the team will be held this Friday at 5 p.m. at the GHS commons areas.
Archery league
All archers are invited to participate in a 3D indoor animal target league beginning Thursday at the Deseret Peak Complex indoor arena. The league will meet every Thursday at 7 p.m. November through February except on Nov. 8 and Nov. 22. The Stansbury Oquirrh Bowmen and Tooele County Deseret Peak Complex are sponsoring the league. Grantsville Junior Jazz
Individuals can sign up for the Grantsville Junior Jazz youth basketball program today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grantsville City Hall. Tooele Junior Jazz
Tooele Junior Jazz registration begins Thursday at 6 p.m. and will be held at Leatherby's Family Creamery in Tooele. Registration times are set for Thursdays and Fridays (Nov. 1, 2, 8 and 9) between 6 and 9 p.m. and on Saturdays (Nov. 3 and 10) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parents may also register online at www.tooelejrjazz.org anytime up until Nov. 10. A $30 late fee will be charged for any athlete registering after 3 p.m. on Nov. 10. Athletes eligible for registration begin at grades K through 12th in Tooele, Stansbury, Erda, and Stockton. Coaches, officials needed
Tooele Junior Jazz is now accepting applications for officials and coaches for recreational and competitive leagues now. Competitive team
A high competitive boys basketball team is being formed in the Tooele area and those in the eighth grade are invited to apply for a spot on the roster. Preregistration inquiries are now being accepted. The team, known as the Tooele Spiders, will play a 20- to 25-game schedule which will include a pre-season series of games, a Christmas holiday tournament known as the Kris Krinkle Klassic, plus competition in two super accelerated leagues. The team will practice two to three times per week in the afternoon. Pre-registered players will be invited to a tryout session in November. The coach will select eight to 10 players. The program is designed for serious, committed players who will benefit from rigorous instructional practices based on basic fundamentals and playing against quality competition. Sportsman permits
Applications for next year's most prized Utah hunting permits -- 2008 Sportsman permits -- will be available by Thursday. Only Utah residents may apply for Sportsman permits. One Sportsman permit is offered for each of the following species: Desert bighorn ram, Rocky Mountain bighorn ram, buck deer, buck pronghorn, bull elk, bull moose, hunter's choice bison, hunter's choice Rocky Mountain goat, black bear, cougar, sandhill crane and wild turkey. Applications must be submitted no later than 11 p.m. on Nov. 15 to be entered in the draw for permits. Draw results will be posted by Dec. 6.
