Community needs a rec center

I agree with Abram Milo Beazer's letter to the editor titled "More rec centers needed" in the Feb. 12 edition. It's sad to say that a majority of the kids in Tooele have already grown up out of shape. I see many people, older and younger, who are already at risk for type 2 diabetes and other health risks. Rec and fitness centers have activities for all ages and abilities. They are not just sport-oriented, but are community-oriented. Many of the Salt Lake County centers offer indoor and outdoor soccer and flag football for youth and adults year round, in addition to family fun days, pool activities, dances, after-school programs, Jr. Jazz, arts and crafts, youth and adult hockey leagues, fitness classes, indoor tracks and personal trainers. All these activities are at a reasonable price and are all at one facility. Doesn't all of this make sense? A healthier, happier, more energized community. Our little Tooele County isn't so little anymore. We need to give our children, teens and adults something more, even if we all have to pay a little more in taxes. In the long run we will all benefit from this. Believe me, I know not everyone wants to exercise or be a part of community activities, or pay for them, but there is a large percentage of us who do and will benefit from it here in Tooele County.
