Gary Lloyd Callister, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend passed away Dec. 9, 2007, at the age of 72. He was born Aug. 16,1935, to J. Lloyd and Louise Callister and was raised in Tooele, with five sisters.

He was very active in Scouting and was an Eagle Scout. He loved sports and pitched for USU softball. He was a member of the winning team in the softball tournament of the Senior Olympics in 2000. He coached all his daughters and many other kids in baseball and softball, winning numerous championships. Gary graduated from Tooele High School in 1953. He served as a meteorologist specialist in the U.S. Army for two years. He earned his master's degree from Utah State and taught school in Grantsville for 29 years, and was loved by all his students. He received Tooele County School District Outstanding Teacher in 1992.

He married the love of his life, Sharon Palmer on Nov. 6, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. They would have been married 50 years in November. They raised four daughters together and provided them with the perfect childhood. Gary was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including the bishop of the Grantsville 4th Ward, bishop's councilor and high council member. He was currently serving at the Salt Lake Temple. In Gary and Sharon's retirement years they enjoyed many special vacations with friends and family. He enjoyed BYU football games with life-long best friend Gordon Lewis. He loved long rides through the desert, reading Louis Lamour books in the canyon, and black and white western movies. He could recite any sport statistic ever asked.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Grantsville; daughters, Lori (Kim) Palmer, Traci Holbert, Lisa (Todd) Montoya, all of Grantsville, and Staci (Doug) Tate of Ophir. He is also survived by his mother, Louise Callister; sisters Betty Dunn, Billie (Carsten) Pomeroy, Beverly (Joe) Macari, and Gloria Callister; father-in-law, Charles (Betty) Palmer; and other in-laws, Brent (Laurie) Palmer, Pat (Max) Coon and Chuck Anderson. He will be missed by grandchildren, Brandon (Melanie) Kimber, Tyler (Lacey) Kimber, Adam (Kacey) Palmer, Nick Palmer, Jordan Palmer, Brody Palmer, Holli (Justin) Ogden, Meghan Adamson, Addam Tate, Allux Montoya; six great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his father, John Lloyd Callister; sister, Pat Anderson; mother-in-law, Virginia Palmer; brother-in-law, Melvin Dunn; and nephew, Gregg Pomeroy.

Gary was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather whose relationship with his family was the most important thing in his life. He will be greatly missed by all. He was adored by everyone he ever made contact with. He was the most humble, nonjudgmental, kind hearted, caring man you would ever meet.
