A 28-year-old Tooele man suspected of raping a 13-year-old girl appeared in 3rd District Court last Thursday.
Jedediah R. Crossley was arrested on Jan. 17 and booked into the Tooele County Detention Center on suspicion of having sex with his stepdaughter's friend on two different occasions at his home, according to Lt. Paul Wimmer of the Tooele City Police Department.
Crossley was charged with two counts of rape of a child and three counts of sodomy on a child, both first-degree felonies.
According to a probable cause report issued by the county attorney's office, the girl reported she had intercourse with Crossley on Jan. 15 and on another occasion several weekends prior. The victim also reported Crossley had given her alcohol and cigarettes on two occasions.
Police believe Crossley used coercion rather than force to make the girl have sex with him.
Crossley was appointed a public defender and will appear in court on Jan. 29.
