Grantsville's No.1 doubles team of Brett Peterson and Casey Williams are playing like region and state contenders.
After losing the first set 0-6 last week in a match against Box Elder, the pair won four consecutive sets to come from behind to defeat Box Elder and then post a resounding win over 5A rival Lehi on Friday.
Peterson and Williams rebounded from that first set loss against the Bees to win 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. Then on Friday they rolled to victory over their Lehi opponents 6-0, 6-1.
Grantsville won both doubles matches against Box Elder, but were unable to win a singles match. The No. 2 doubles duo of Kaleb Rupp and Trevor Lujan defeated Box Elder's Tyson Butterfield and Caleb Harrison 7-5, 6-1.
Grantsville's top player, Logan Paulich, faced one of the finest tennis players in the state in Box Elder's Jordan Barlow. Barlow won the match 6-1, 6-0. Although the score did not show it, the Box Elder coach told Grantsville coach Pat Ciervo that Paulich played Barlow about as strong as any of his opponents this year.
Grantsville and Box Elder engaged in some tight battles at second and third singles with both matches going three sets.
At No. 2 singles the Bees' Peter Isaac outlasted Grantsville's Jared Nordgran 2-6, 6-7, 4-7.
At No. 3 singles Michael Lundberg edged Grantsville's George Parkinson 2-6, 6-4, 5-7.
Grantsville JV singles players Jared Knight, Ben Tripp and Dallin Gomez all won their matches and Dallin Hardy and Devin Anderson also won at doubles.
On Friday Lehi varsity edged Grantsville 3-2.
Paulich faced another strong opponent falling to Lehi's Devan Dean 4-6, 5-7 while Nordgran lost 3-6, 3-6. Grantsville picked up a victory at third singles when Parkinson rolled past Nate Mathis 7-6, 6-3 thanks to strong serving and powerful ground strokes.
Peterson and Williams raced to a quick victory in their doubles match to tie the team score after four varsity matches.
Lehi, however, won the final match at number two doubles to record the victory.
Dallin Gomez picked up a win for Grantsville against Lehi in junior varsity action.
The Cowboys host Morgan today and play at Spanish Fork on Wednesday.
