Leash laws need enforcing

I recently read the story on the woman in Tooele who was bitten by a pit bull in the article "Dog attack raises difficult questions" on May 6. Thank you for reiterating the fact that any dog can bite, because I feel that the name "pit bull" is getting a very bad reputation. In the story, however, it said that if the people of Tooele would adhere to the leash law, it would eliminate the dog biting. People are letting their dogs run because the law is not enforced. If the law was enforced, I think people will think twice about letting their dog get loose. I think if the leash law was enforced and the owner would get a fine if their dog was located off a leash, a dramatic difference would be seen almost immediately. My pit bulls will bark or growl at someone when we are not home if they see them approaching the house. I completely agree that if a dog is deemed dangerous it is part of the owner's responsibility in how they raised that dog. I myself have three children and would certainly not put them in a position of possibly being harmed by these dogs. So I am all for teaching children on what to do to avoid being bitten by a dog, and I am also in full support of enforcing the leash law.
