Jeffery R. Burgener, 30, was traveling eastbound on I-80 at milepost 111 near 7200 West at approximately 7:15 a.m. when he lost control of his red Volkswagen Jetta while changing lanes. Burgener was wearing a seat belt and was not ejected from the vehicle.
According to Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden, witnesses said Burgener was racing another vehicle at a high rate of speed when his car rolled several times into the median and across westbound lanes of traffic.
Roden said no charges have been filed yet, and there is an investigation pending.
“Right now we’re just trying to establish if another individual was involved,” Roden said. “If there is another person and we can locate the right individuals, charges could be filed.”
Although Roden did not know how fast Burgener was traveling, he did say speed contributed to the crash and the number of times the car rolled.
